Kyle Hayes punishment confirmed by judge day after MOTM performance

Kyle Hayes punishment confirmed by judge day after MOTM performance

Limerick hurler Kyle Hayes appeared in Limerick Circuit Criminal Court yesterday, where a judge confirmed his community service instead of the three-month jail sentence.

The All-Star was given an 18-month suspended jail term for a violent disorder conviction following an incident outside Icon nightclub in Limerick in 2019.

Hayes then breached the terms of his sentence when he was recorded by Gardaí in 2024, driving 55kph over the 100kph speed limit on the N20 Cork-Limerick dual carriageway.

The 26-year-old must complete the community service order within 12 months from yesterday.

His court appearance came less than 24 hours after he won man of the match in Limerick’s hammering of Cork at the Gaelic Grounds in their Munster SHC clash.

Judge Dara Hayes said to the sportsman: “If there is non-compliance you will be brought back before the court and the (three month) sentence will be imposed.”

The five-time All-Ireland winner replied: “Yes judge.”

The RTÉ panel were full of praise for the wing-back after his stunning show against Cork.

Former Tipperary boss Liam Sheedy said: “They dismantled them today, and Kyle Hayes was central to that.

“His energy and his ability to read the game, as soon as he snuffs danger, and I think he was very disciplined in the tackle today, I thought he done extremely, extremely well, and they just couldn’t break him down.

“He had to get man of the match.

Clare legend Anthony Daly added: “He’s like a gazelle…. it’s not just the breaking out, it’s the tackling, it’s the handing at the last second, it’s the whole package he gives you there at six.”
