Liverpool could need an entirely new defence next season as 'whispers grow'

Liverpool face the prospect of fielding a whole new defence next year as rumours swirl around their backline - with Ibrahima Konate also yet to sign a new deal.
The Reds have been formidable this term and look set to land the Premier League title. More silverware could also follow but this summer could lead to a massive overhaul with several players seeing their contracts wind down.
The situations with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are well documented. Van Dijk has been tipped as the man most likely to sign a new deal but as things stand he will be free to leave in the summer. Liverpool's right-back meanwhile is very much on Real Madrid's radar.
They had a January bid for Alexander-Arnold rejected in January and the the Times reports that whispers are growing that the Spanish giants are also keen on Konate. The Frenchman is yet to sign the new terms offered to him and he will soon be into the final year of his contract.
PSG are also eyeing Konate and Liverpool may be keen to avoid another season-long saga that could see their player leave for nothing. As a result they may choose to cash in on the man who has been the most regular partner for Van Dijk.
Andy Robertson, alongside Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold, has been a stalwart at Anfield and is among the remaining members of the 2019 Champions League winning side. The Reds are considering their next move though with the Scot about to turn 31.
There has been a reluctance to extend players once they're in their 30s. Kostas Tsimikas is not a long-term solution having been at the club for several years. Liverpool have been weighing up their options with Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez on their shortlist.
At the other end of the pitch Mohamed Salah is yet to sign a new deal despite being on course to register potentially a record breaking season in the Premier League. The Egyptian has been vocal about this being his last season, which would leave a huge void.
Darwin Nunez is another man with an uncertain future. His frustrations in front of goal have been well documented and his attitude was questioned by Arne Slot last week and his sale is likely to be considered come the summer.
