Morris fires Meath past Galway to first All-Ireland SFC semi-final in 16 years

Meath’s remarkable summer journey continues after beating Galway by 2-16 to 2-15 at Croke Park this afternoon to progress to the All-Ireland senior football championship semi-finals.
Having already defeated Dublin and Kerry in this year’s championship, Robbie Brennan’s men have added the Connacht champions to the list of scalps to seal their county’s place in the last four of the Sam Maguire Cup race for the first time since 2009.
A cagey opening half at headquarters saw John Maher’s point separating the sides at half-time, with Galway bringing in a 0-7 to 0-6 lead, but the Royals would hit the front through the points of Matthew Costello and ‘Man of the Match’ Jordan Morris (1-6) within 10 minutes of the restart.
Morris doubled Meath’s advantage before substitute Conor Gray rattle the Tribesmen’s net in the 53rd minute by tucking away his shot at the second attempt to make it 1-11 to 0-9.

Morris put six between the sides a minute later, but Padraic Joyce’s charges would come up with a superb response which saw them registering 2-3 in the space of five minutes.
Shane Walsh’s expertly taken free from beyond the arc trimmed the Tribe’s deficit to four ahead of a Cillian McDaid's goal being backed by another major from Liam Silke.
Eoghan Frayne’s point stopped the rot for the Royals and their next attack would come off a brilliant rob by the electric Morris as Galway came out of defence with the ball, and Meath's ace attacker ‘one-twoed’ with Costello to palm to the net.
Cathal Hickey’s point made it 2-14 to 2-12 in favour of Brennan’s men with seven minutes remaining ahead of Morris sailing over the last two points to ensure Meath’s first championship win over Galway at Croker in 55 years.
