Pat Spillane discloses the jaw-dropping money paid to inter-county managers

There has been a significant amount of discourse in recent weeks on the subject of inter-county managers and payment.

A survey was conducted on the GAA website, asking participants whether they feel inter-county managers should be paid in “a manner consistent with that of an employee of the Association.”

The recommendations from the survey are due to go before Special Congress.

Figures in the GAA world have had their say with Jim Gavin seemingly more opposed to the idea, and All-Ireland winning Kerry boss Jack O’Connor firmly against it, while Dublin legend Jason Sherlock is in favour.

Pat Spillane has now given more details on the subject, and revealed that certain managers are not only being paid, but are getting a significant wad of dough for their services.

Writing in the Sunday World, the Kerry legend turned pundit said: “There’s 29 inter-county managers that have been appointed in Ireland at the moment and my rough calculation is that approximately 10 are being paid…

“Do you want to know what’s the going rate at the moment?

“From my sources, I’m reliably informed the highest paid inter-county manager in this country is on €120,000. He manages one of the top teams in this country.

“But the gas part about it is that the second-highest paid manager in this country, at over €100,000, doesn’t manage a team in the top two divisions. Fair play, nice money if you can get it.”
