Pat Spillane Reveals Eye-Watering Payments To Two Inter-County GAA Managers

As has become a consistent theme in recent years, the topic of potentially paying inter-county GAA managers moving forward has been raised once again in the last few weeks.
GAA President Jarlath Burns last month outlined a proposal that would see inter-county managers receive a €20,000 'stipend' for their services. The comments have proven to be controversial, with some questioning why coaches should be paid when players remain as amateurs.
Of course, payments to managers is something that is not an alien concept in the GAA. Many managers at both club and county level are compensated for their services, something that is often done under the table.
Some feel that it is time that this is now conducted out in the open.

Pat Spillane Reveals Huge Payments To Two County GAA ManagersPaying managers remains a hot-button issue within the GAA, with many feeling that such a move would go against the entire ethos of the organisation.
However, despite the practice not being an official one, it has apparently not stopped some coaches receiving eye-watering sums of money from some counties.
Writing in the Sunday World, Pat Spillane revealed the rumoured salary of the two most well compensated GAA managers in the country.
There’s 29 inter-county managers that have been appointed in Ireland at the moment and my rough calculation is that approximately 10 are being paid...
Do you want to know what’s the going rate at the moment?
From my sources, I’m reliably informed the highest paid inter-county manager in this country is on €120,000. He manages one of the top teams in this country.
But the gas part about it is that the second-highest paid manager in this country, at over €100,000, doesn’t manage a team in the top two divisions. Fair play, nice money if you can get it.
The identity of the two managers in question was not revealed.
Awarding payments of that stature to inter-county GAA managers is something that would not sit well with quite a few people associated with the sport.
