Sligo's Pat Spillane Jr Completes Intriguing Club Transfer Ahead Of Championship

The rule that allows GAA players to transfer to other counties based on family heritage has been increasingly utilised in recent years, with a number of counties taking advantage of it in order to strengthen their panels.
Under the law, a player can line out for another team if a parent or grandparent hails from that county.
Numerous inter-county setups have benefitted from the rule, bringing in players who might not otherwise have the opportunity to play at that level.
In recent times, we have also seen many of those players make the decision to also transfer at club level. Roscommon goalkeeper Conor Carroll is the latest example, transferring from home club Oranmore-Maree in Galway to St Brigid's in Roscommon.
We can now another name to that list.

Pat Spillane Jr Completes Intriguing Club TransferOcean FM report that Pat Spillane Jr has transferred to Sligo club St Molaise Gaels.
The player is of course the son of legendary Kerry footballer Pat Spillane. The younger version has been part of the Sligo inter-county setup since 2022, for whom he qualifies via his mother Rosarii.
This is not the first club transfer of the player's career, having previously moved from Kerry side Templenoe to Dublin's St Jude's.
He is now set to link up with St Molaise Gaels, who will be hoping that his addition can help them over the line in the Sligo senior ranks. They have lost the last two editions of the county final, coming up short against Collera/Strandhill on both occasions.
Despite having never won a senior county title, St Molaise Gaels are clearly a club on the rise. They were only promoted from the intermediate ranks in 2022 before making back-to-back senior finals in recent years.
