UMass women’s lacrosse: Minutemen advance to A-10 title game following 16-11 victory over Richmond

The UMass women’s lacrosse team punched its ticket to the Atlantic 10 championship game following its 16-11 win over Richmond on Friday at Robins Stadium in Richmond, Virginia.

The top-seeded Minutewomen used a six-goal second quarter to pull away from the No. 4 Spiders for a 9-5 lead at halftime, after finishing the first quarter ahead, 3-2. UMass then outscored Richmond, 7-6, in the second half to advance to the title game for the 17th consecutive season.

Kassidy Morris was the catalyst on offense for the Minutewomen, scoring five goals and handing out two assists for seven total points. Ava Connaughton wasn’t far behind with four goals and a helper, while Tessa Shields distributed the ball well as she finished with five assists in the victory.

Catrina Tobin tallied three saves in goal for UMass, which surrendered just 14 shots on goal.

Alexis Morton’s four strikes led Richmond in the loss.

The Minutewomen (14-3) will play the winner of No. 2 Saint Joseph’s and No. 6 VCU on Sunday at noon.

UMass — winners of 12 straight — will be seeking it’s first A-10 championship in four years on Sunday, last winning it in 2021 when it beat St. Joe’s, 18-7.
