Booking CEO Glenn Fogel: Echoes Between AI and Dot-Com Boom

Booking Holdings CEO Glenn Fogel sees similarities between the rise of generative AI and the early days of the internet – and he’s drawing on personal experience to navigate what’s ahead.

Speaking Tuesday at the Skift Global Forum 2025, Fogel called this moment “without doubt one of the most exciting times to be in travel and technology.” As the industry starts grappling with agentic AI and distribution through platforms like ChatGPT and Gemini, he sees the innovation cycle accelerating once again.

“It really reminds me of when I started 25 years ago, the height of that dot-com explosion,” Fogel said. “It seems almost the same thing – this Cambrian explosion of new things you can do. I find it incredibly exciting, and a little bit concerning, because [there are] new ways of doing things.”
