UN Security Council votes for Ukraine resolution that does not name Russia as aggressor

The United States introduced a draft resolution calling for a “rapid end” to the war, but without mentioning Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
The UN Security Council has voted in favor of the Ukraine resolution of the US administration of President Donald Trump , which calls for a "rapid end" to the war without mentioning Ukraine's territorial integrity. In the most powerful UN body, the text, which does not name Russia as an aggressor, received 10 votes from the 15 council members and thus the required majority.
US State Department sources had previously said that the US would veto any amendments to the resolution text – even if they came from European allies.
The UN General Assembly had previously adopted a resolution introduced by Ukraine and European and other allied states, demanding the territorial integrity of Ukraine. On Monday, 93 states voted in favor of a corresponding, non-binding draft text by Ukraine and several allies, including many European states. 18 states, including the USA, voted against, and 65 abstained.
Previous draft resolutions in support of Ukraine had received considerably more support in the UN General Assembly. On the first anniversary of the invasion in February 2023, 141 of 193 EU member states voted for a resolution calling, among other things, for an immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Russian troops.
The USA also abstained from voting on Monday on another draft resolution, which it had itself introduced in an original version. The text introduced by Washington initially contained no criticism of Moscow and no statements on the territorial integrity of Ukraine . At the initiative of European states, this text was then supplemented with amendments to include references to territorial integrity and a "just peace". This text was also adopted with a majority of 93 votes; eight states voted against and 73 abstained - including the USA.
