System of a Down, the four-person US quartet with Armenian roots led by singer Serj Tankian , significantly shaped the alternative metal genre in the early 2000s. Classics like "Toxicity , " "Chop Suey!" , and "BYOB" remain among the band's most critically acclaimed hits.
Since the release of the single Protect The Land / Genocidal Humanoidz in 2020, which addressed the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, the band has only sporadically released new music.
In recent years, System of a Down has played only sporadically in Europe. They last appeared in Germany in 2017 as headliners at the twin festivals Rock am Ring and Rock im Park , and since then, they have performed sporadically at selected festivals internationally.
The announced 2026 concerts mark the return to major German stages and the first extensive European tour in several years.
