Those who apply for a pension before the standard retirement age can continue working. However, there are some pitfalls that retirees must be aware of.
Economics Minister Katherina Reiche (CDU) is calling for a later retirement age, angering her coalition partner, the SPD. There's no provision for this in the coalition agreement, so Reiche's proposal has little chance of success. Many older workers want to continue working despite retirement anyway, but there are also some who are considering early retirement.
But is this worthwhile for those who have been insured for a long time? From age 65, you can receive your pension in full if you have at least 35 years of relevant insurance contributions by then. Those who wish can continue working until the actual retirement age of 67. Until then, your pension and salary will be paid into your account together.
