How to generate electricity on your own balcony

How to generate electricity on your own balcony

SZ-Magazin: Mr. Bugert, let's start with the basics. What is a so-called balcony power plant, and how does it differ from a rooftop photovoltaic system? Thomas Bugert: The modules are the same as those used in a photovoltaic system, only smaller. They capture the sun's rays and generate electricity. With a balcony power plant, as the name suggests, they are usually mounted on the balcony, but they can also be installed on the roof of the garage, on an exterior wall, or in the garden. Some models can even be installed instead of window shutters. The main advantage of balcony power plants is that they are much cheaper and require no expertise for installation. You can simply plug the power supply into the nearest outlet and start feeding electricity into the grid. Therefore, a balcony power plant is suitable for anyone who wants to generate some of their electricity from the sun without large investment costs and thus contribute to the energy transition. This applies to both homeowners and renters. The amount of sunshine naturally depends on geography. There are fewer of them in Flensburg throughout the year than in southern Bavaria, but it's still worth it there too.
