Is Best Dressed only possible with archive designs? Jennifer Lawrence delivers the most stylish proof in this Dior dress

Jennifer Lawrence showed off two elegant looks by Dior on her first day at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival
You can always count on Jennifer Lawrence to bring glamour to the annual Cannes Film Festival . Over the years, the A-list actress has turned the iconic steps of Cannes into her fashion playground—always sporting stunning, old-Hollywood-style gowns. Last Saturday evening, the actress arrived at the premiere of her new film "Die, My Love," directed by Lynne Ramsay and starring alongside Robert Pattinson, in an elegant Christian Dior design.

Styled by Jamie Mizrahi, Lawrence wore an ivory silk taffeta gown inspired by a 1949 Poulenc gown for Dior . The sculptural, shell-shaped look—crisped with soft pleats—was reinterpreted for today's times and required a whopping 250 hours of work. A little retro yet timeless, the gown perfectly embodied the atmosphere of lightness and elegance that prevails in Cannes. It also adhered to this year's particularly strict dress code , which prohibits voluminous or sheer silhouettes.
Earlier in the day, Lawrence attended a private dinner hosted by Dior and "The Hollywood Reporter" – also wearing an elegant look from the French fashion house. The actress wore a floor-length maxi dress with a floral pattern and sheer sleeves – a stylish homage to the current boho trend . And all this on her first day in Cannes. The only question remains: Will she maintain this level of fashion throughout the week? It will be interesting to see.
