"We expect heavy rain over the next two days of the festival. So, when choosing your outfit, remember to wear sturdy shoes and bring rain capes or ponchos," warned the Lollapalooza team in their Instagram story on the first day of the festival. Instead of summer, sunshine, and the smell of sunscreen, the air was filled with the smell of rain and mud.
Yet the summery date is precisely what makes the festival so appealing, inviting you to finally style all your Instagram looks—with bikini tops, short shorts, lots of fringes, and, if you like, Doc Martens. Keyword: Coachella.
But the weather didn't deter the visitors from their good mood and their flashy outfits. After all, not only did the artists travel from around 60 countries, but the approximately 60,000 guests also came from everywhere – from Singapore and Stuttgart to Hamburg. And so, despite the constant rain, people danced to songs by Justin Timberlake , Gracie Abrams, Raye, and the rest in rain ponchos and rubber boots.
Many also opted for the colorful Crocs that the festival team distributed in exchange for a follow on Instagram – and which, surprisingly, proved extremely practical given the still-warm temperatures: quickly washable and pleasantly light. Furthermore, the outfits were often improvised – but perhaps that made them all the more creative. We were there and show you our favorites.
Agussan could have easily been in a UK rap video. He had quickly picked up a black rain jacket from Decathlon the day before for the festival rain, along with casual, weatherproof hiking boots with high socks and a metallic bracelet. He's definitely got the gorpcore trend! Jonas Berndt
Julika would be in perfect hands at Glastonbury: Hunter rubber boots, an oversized wool sweater, and a silk scarf in her hair. The look is reminiscent of Kate Moss in the 2000s. Her outfit was perfectly equipped for the mixed weather. Jonas Berndt
"We would have liked to have worn much less!" Nicole and Jörg traveled to Berlin especially for Lollapalooza. They just didn't think about the rain when packing. Nicole's spontaneous solution: simply wear pants under her leopard-print dress. And Jörg's shiny gold jacket? A last-minute find from the party shop on Eberswalder Straße. Jonas Berndt
Philipp doesn't let the early autumn weather bother him – his tinted sunglasses stay on, no matter how gray the sky. His colorful tie-dye sweater screams '70s festival vibe. And with an umbrella in his pocket, he was well prepared. Jonas Berndt
Kilian has adapted to the weather with passion – in bright yellow rubber duck outfits, including the "Mrs. Putzi" noodle duck. His girlfriend provided him with a duck-themed tie and hat, and he's already found the perfect festival buddy for Putzi, he cheerfully tells us. Jonas Berndt
Lots of lace, lots of pink, short skirts, little weatherproofing – Sara wears her favorite pieces from small labels from London and Japan. Her friend Lara is also perfectly dressed, with everything from Sara's closet. Sharing is caring, and that applies even in the rain. Jonas Berndt
We meet Florian, relaxed with his wife and child, on the meadow – and his "Daddy" cap, a find from San Diego, immediately catches our eye. The rest of his look is also compiled from all over the world: a shirt from Japan, a jacket from Thailand, picked up at a market somewhere. Colorful, casual, and cheerful. Jonas Berndt
Kiki and Claudio unexpectedly arrive in matching outfits—gray rain ponchos, quite simple but certainly stylish. Kiki opts for subtle details underneath: an Adidas lace-up top, a black miniskirt, and sheer tights with lettering that screams "Oh Darling!" Jonas Berndt
Lucas goes all in: His look is entirely from Decathlon's hiking department, everything water-resistant – from the fishing trousers to the bucket hat. "Better safe than sorry," he says. With a broad grin, he trudges across the terrain – the constant rain really can't hurt him. Jonas Berndt
