Madonna: Her new look is a tribute to her late mother

On Instagram, Madonna presents a new look in memory of her mother, who died more than 60 years ago.
Her mother died when Madonna was just five years old. Now the 66-year-old music icon honored her late mother by sporting her hairstyle. Madonna Louise Ciccone (1933-1963) died of breast cancer at the age of 30. On Sunday, May 18, her famous daughter posted photos in an Instagram story showing the blonde sporting a dark, sixties-style blow-dry in her honor.
Since Madonna appeared blonde again shortly afterwards on the sidelines of a soccer game with her twelve-year-old twins Stella and Estere, it appears to have been a wig. "I missed my mom, so I channeled her..." the exceptional artist captioned the lookalike photo. The singer also wore a black printed hoodie and several necklaces, including one with a Christian cross pendant.
Sick mother "made me grow up quickly"In 1985, Madonna told Time magazine about her mother: "I knew she had breast cancer for a long time, so she was very weak, but she kept going and did the things she had to do. I knew she was very fragile." Her mother kept her feelings and fear to herself, never complaining.
Her illness and fragility made Madonna "grow up quickly," she continued. "I knew I could either be sad and weak and have no control—or I could just take control and say things would get better."
In the documentary "Becoming Madonna" (2024), the "Queen of Pop" later honestly revealed that losing her mother felt like "a part of my heart had been ripped out." Looking back, she explained, "I think that was too much for a child." Madonna added that she felt an "emptiness" afterward.
