Thomas Helmer and Yasmina Filali: Their daughter Sam passed her Abitur with a grade of 1.0

As if passing her Abitur (high school diploma) wasn't reason enough for parents to be proud of their child, the daughter of Thomas Helmer (60) and Yasmina Filali (49) has made the most of her schooling. As the actress revealed to "Bild ," the 17-year-old "just graduated with a perfect grade from the French Gymnasium." As if the dream grade weren't enough, Filali added: "With this, she has the German and French Abitur in her pocket!"

Sam grew up bilingual thanks to her German father and Paris-born mother. She may have inherited her fighting spirit from the former top defender, but she credits her mother primarily for her academic success. When asked who she learned what from, Sam Helmer replied: "Math from Dad, that was my worst subject. Everything else from Mom!"

The ambitious, straight-A student has naturally already thought about her future. Her plans are certainly ambitious, but they reflect her socially conscious nature: "I see myself at the United Nations one day, working for human rights." Her role model for this is George Clooney's wife, human rights activist Amal Clooney. To pursue her dream, she plans to study law soon.

Actress Yasmina Filali and former soccer player and presenter Thomas Helmer had spent 21 years together – 17 of them as spouses. However, in August 2022, they officially announced: "Unfortunately, our relationship didn't survive the third dreaded seventh year."
