When Friedrich Merz appears before the cameras at the Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge on Monday morning, Canadian time, he's actually early. The G7 summit, for which the Chancellor traveled to the Canadian Rockies on Sunday, hasn't officially begun yet. But as is often the case with international summits, what happens on the sidelines is at least as important as the actual working sessions on the global economy, the economic outlook, or commodity security.
