The war between Israel and Iran continues.

Iran has again fired rockets at Israel. State radio spoke of a "rain of rockets" on targets in Israel. The Israeli army announced that its air defenses were deployed to counter the threat. The population was again ordered to seek shelter, the Israeli military announced this morning. According to the Times of Israel, loud explosions were heard in the Jerusalem area. People have now been allowed to leave the shelters.
The air force had previously carried out "comprehensive" attacks on military targets in western Iran during the night, according to the Israeli army. Dozens of storage facilities and launch sites for surface-to-surface missiles, as well as surface-to-air missile launchers and drone storage facilities were attacked, it said.
Washington dismissed reports of Israel's ally, the United States, allegedly entering the war as "false" overnight. US President Donald Trump had previously urged residents of the Iranian capital, Tehran, to flee. "Everyone should leave Tehran immediately," Trump wrote on Truth Social, stoking fears. He then left the G7 summit in Canada early, but had previously indicated that Iran was willing to negotiate.
"An agreement will be signed, and I think Iran is stupid not to sign it," Trump said. Otherwise, something will happen, he added, without being more specific. "They want to make a deal, and as soon as I leave here, we'll do something." The White House is discussing with Iran the possibility of a meeting this week between US envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi, the US news site Axios reported this morning, citing four sources familiar with the matter.
Meanwhile, the G7 leaders unexpectedly agreed on a joint statement on the war. The text describes Iran as "the main source of regional instability and terror" and emphasizes Israel's right to self-defense. They have always made it unequivocally clear that Iran must never acquire a nuclear weapon.
Aragchi sees Trump as the key to ending the war. "One phone call from Washington is enough to silence someone like (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu). This could pave the way for a return to diplomacy," he wrote on the X platform. "Netanyahu is making a fool of another US president."
It remained unclear what the motivation was for Trump's call for the evacuation of Tehran's population. Since the weekend, there have been reports of long traffic jams on major roads, as many of the city's 15 million residents are fleeing out of fear of an even greater escalation. According to Iranian reports, there were again heavy explosions and defensive fire in the capital area overnight. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu had previously called on Tehran's residents to flee.
"We tell the citizens of Tehran: 'Leave the area!' – and we are taking action," Netanyahu said. Israel initially called for the evacuation of a district. Shortly thereafter, the main building of a state broadcaster was hit. According to the broadcaster, there were deaths and injuries. Since the attacks began on Friday night, Israel has dealt severe blows to Iran's power structure. Netanyahu now appears not to be ruling out a targeted assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Netanyahu: Killing Khamenei could end conflict"This will not escalate the conflict, this will end the conflict," Netanyahu said in an interview with US broadcaster ABC when asked whether he shared the US government's concern that killing Khamenei could cause the conflict to spiral out of control. Asked directly whether Israel was planning to kill Khamenei, he said: "We are doing what we have to do. I'm not going to discuss the details." Over the weekend, there were reports that US President Trump had objected to Israeli plans to kill the Iranian head of state in recent days.
According to an Israeli military spokesman, Israel has now achieved "full air superiority" over Tehran. Some of the rocket attacks from Iran have been thwarted by Israeli airstrikes. According to the state news agency IRNA, a spokesman for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced overnight that a new wave of attacks on arch-enemy Israel would "continue uninterrupted" until the morning.
According to Israeli media reports, however, fewer than ten rockets were intercepted overnight over the coastal metropolis of Tel Aviv and the city of Haifa. There were no reports of impacts or injuries. In the morning, the Islamic Republic fired more rockets at Israel.
Israeli refinery out of service after attackFollowing an Iranian missile attack on Sunday on a key refinery in Haifa, the operator reportedly shut down all of the facility's facilities. Israeli oil and petrochemical company Bazan reported extensive damage, according to Israeli media. It was not reported how long the country's largest refinery will remain out of operation. The refinery produces a large portion of Israel's civilian and military oil products.
The US military supports Israel's defense. At the same time, the US government emphasizes that it is not participating in the fighting between Israel and Iran. US troops in the Middle East remain committed to defending themselves if necessary, a Pentagon spokesperson emphasized on X. Shortly before, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that he had ordered an increase in the military presence in the region over the weekend to protect his own troops in the Middle East. He did not provide details.
According to consistent media reports, the US military is sending a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East. The US also reportedly deployed dozens of tanker aircraft to Europe over the weekend so they can be quickly deployed to the Middle East if necessary. Protecting its own troops in the Middle East region is a priority, it is said.
On the sidelines of the G7 summit, French President Emmanuel Macron spoke positively about US efforts to end the war. He said that if the United States could achieve a ceasefire, that would be a very good thing. Macron did not provide details about the US efforts. He only stated that Trump had said that talks were underway. An offer for a ceasefire and talks had been made.
“Iran must not possess a nuclear weapon”Israel claims the attacks are intended to prevent Iran from building a nuclear bomb. The leadership in Tehran, however, emphasizes that the nuclear program serves civilian purposes. In his post on Truth Social, US President Trump wrote that Tehran should have signed the agreement he proposed in the dispute over Iran's nuclear program. He called it a "waste of human life." He added in capital letters: "Iran must not possess a nuclear weapon."
Several Arab states and Turkey condemned Israel's attacks on Iran. It is essential that "Israel's hostilities against Iran" cease, they said in a joint statement. The goal must be a "comprehensive ceasefire." It is urgently necessary to make the Middle East a region free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction. This must apply "without exception to all states in the region, in accordance with the relevant international resolutions."
