Funding typically lasts for at least two semesters. In 2024, universities raised a total of €34 million in funding from private donors, 2.6 percent more than the previous year. The donors in 2024 were primarily corporations (3,075 donors with a total of €9.8 million in funding), other legal entities under private law, such as registered associations, registered cooperatives, or private law foundations (2,446 donors with a total of €14.2 million in funding), as well as private individuals and sole proprietorships (2,076 donors with a total of €4.7 million in funding). As in previous years, universities in Saarland were the most successful in acquiring private funding for Deutschlandstipendium recipients. In 2024, 1.9 percent of students—based on the number of students in the 2024/2025 winter semester—were able to receive a Deutschlandstipendium. The smallest proportion of recipients receiving a Deutschlandstipendium in 2024 was in Thuringia, at 0.5 percent of students, according to the Federal Office.
