The US government is pursuing a strict approach against migrants. Anyone who prevents deportations is targeted. US Judge Hannah Dugan is accused of protecting a migrant from immigration authorities. She is now facing trial for this.

In the United States, a federal court has filed charges against a judge who allegedly resisted the arrest of a migrant by immigration authorities. According to the indictment, Milwaukee County District Judge Hannah Dugan is accused of helping an undocumented migrant evade arrest. If convicted of obstruction of justice, she faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

According to the indictment, the 66-year-old is accused of helping a Mexican national escape from the courtroom after learning that ICE and other federal officials were planning to detain the 30-year-old in the hallway. At the end of April, the judge was arrested by the FBI in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The case caused a stir in the United States.

According to the indictment, Dugan let the man out of the building through a side door before ICE officers could arrest him. According to a report in the New York Times, Dugan's lawyers stated that their client maintains her innocence and looks forward to "getting justice in court."

Since Trump took office, the judiciary has been under massive pressure, and not only in immigration policy. The Republican had promised a tough crackdown on "criminal" immigrants and mass deportations. However, courts have overturned this in a number of cases.
