Vladimir Putin's fiercest opponent has been dead for more than a year. Alexei Navalny's birthday is coming up soon. A television channel called "The Future of Russia" is scheduled to launch on that day.

The widow of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who died in Russian custody, will launch a television channel for press freedom in Russia. The channel will be launched from Paris in collaboration with the non-governmental organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF), the organization announced.

The channel, called "Future of Russia," will be broadcast via satellite and is intended to reach virtually all of Russia. It is scheduled to launch on June 4, the birthday of Alexei Navalny, who would have turned 49 then.

Navalny died under unclear circumstances in a Russian penal camp in February 2024 at the age of 47. President Vladimir Putin's fiercest opponent was sentenced to 19 years in prison for "extremism." His widow, Yulia Navalnaya, subsequently took on the role of a leading figure in the Russian opposition abroad.
