Trump administration bans Harvard enrollment of international students

The dispute between the university and the Trump administration has been simmering for a long time. In the wake of the conflict over how to handle political speech and the accusation that the university was doing too little to combat anti-Semitism on campus, Noem's administration requested information about international students in mid-April. However, the information submitted by Harvard at the end of April was apparently insufficient for Washington.

The Trump administration has been exerting pressure on Harvard and other elite universities for several months to bring them into line politically. It has already massively withdrawn research funding from the universities and threatened to impose higher taxes on their endowments.
