French rugby player and Olympic athlete Josaia Raisuqe has died in a traffic accident at the age of 30. According to his club, Castres Olympique (CO), the Fijian-born player died in a traffic accident. According to media reports, Raisuqe was on his way to training when he was struck by a train at a level crossing.
Raisuqe has been a member of the club since 2021 and was Olympic runner-up in sevens rugby in Paris last year.
"He was a wonderful teammate, greatly appreciated by everyone, including the Castres fans who had adopted him," a statement read. "He was a bright young man on and off the pitch, a pillar of the Fijian community we have at the club and to whom we feel a deep connection." The match between Castres and Clermont-Ferrand scheduled for Saturday has been postponed.
