Chelsea FC is in the final of the Club World Cup

The match winner refrained from any celebratory poses. Brazilian João Pedro scored both goals for Chelsea FC in a 2-0 (1-0) victory against Fluminense from Rio de Janeiro: in the 16th and 56th minutes. The reason for Pedro's restrained joy: The 23-year-old had trained as a footballer at Fluminense before leaving his homeland for Europe in 2020. After spells at Watford FC and Brighton & Hove Albion, the striker landed at Chelsea FC just a few days ago.

PSG and Real Madrid play for the other final ticket

Thanks to the Brazilian's two goals in the semifinal in East Rutherford, the London club became the first team to reach the Club World Cup final in the USA , which will take place on Sunday (9 p.m. CEST). The opponent will be determined this Wednesday in the same stadium between Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain and Spain's record champions Real Madrid. This means that the premiere of the Club World Cup in the new 32-team format will feature a European final.

For new Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso, this is his first title opportunity since moving to Madrid from Bundesliga club Bayer 04 Leverkusen. With Leverkusen, he won the club's first German title in 2024 and then completed the double by winning the DFB Cup. Bayer 04 finished runners-up in the 2024/25 season.

FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund were eliminated from the Club World Cup in the quarter-finals: Bayern against PSG (0:2) and Dortmund against Real (2:3).
