World Cup runner-up Switzerland inflicted the USA's first defeat at the Ice Hockey World Championships in Sweden and Denmark. The Swiss impressed in Germany's preliminary round Group B in Herning with a 3-0 (2-0, 0-0, 1-0) victory, overtaking the Americans with seven points from three games. The USA disappointed after two easy wins against underdogs Denmark (5-0) and Hungary (6-0). The still undefeated defending champions Czech Republic took the lead with their 7-2 (0-0, 4-1, 3-1) mandatory win against co-hosts Denmark. The Swiss will be the DEB selection's fourth preliminary round opponent on Thursday (4:20 p.m.).
