Jonathan Burkardt, the newcomer with the notepad

Jonathan Burkardt, the newcomer with the notepad

As tearful as his farewell in Mainz was, Jonathan Burkardt appeared just as positive and cheerful at his introduction in Frankfurt. He likes notes and lists, but not the question about Eintracht Frankfurt's bed linen.

When players find a new club, they often talk about "opening a new chapter." In Jonathan Burkardt's case, it would be more apt to say: "The page on the notebook is turning." On Monday, the striker was officially introduced to Eintracht Frankfurt and revealed that lists and notes are his thing.

"I enjoy doing that and I write down a lot of things – about my own games, but also about my opponents, to get things off my chest," says Burkardt. The striker has also taken notes on Eintracht Frankfurt players.

Burkardt: "Many beautiful impressions"

After the striker signed a contract with Frankfurt until 2030 on Friday , these opponents have now become teammates. In his first few days at Eintracht, he has already collected "many great impressions" and even met some of his new teammates.

Ideally, they'll soon become neighbors. Burkardt currently still lives in Mainz, commuting the short distance, but is looking for a new apartment in Frankfurt. However, the striker has repeatedly emphasized that proximity played no role in his decision to join Eintracht Frankfurt.

Burkardt's future move to the Hesse club had been in the works for some time. "My agent told me many times: 'You'll get back to me.' It gave me a very good feeling that they were so committed to me," said the 24-year-old attacker, who played for Mainz for eleven years.

Question about Eintracht bed linen remains open

Despite his illustrious past with Mainz, rumors have been circulating in recent weeks that Burkardt slept in Eintracht Frankfurt bedding as a child. When asked about this, the striker responded with a laugh. "I thought the question would come up," he explained, but then left the question unanswered. For him, the past isn't the most important thing, but rather the sporting prospects at Eintracht Frankfurt.

With this perspective, this focus, the striker is already looking forward to his upcoming major appearances in the premier class: "When I think about hearing the Champions League anthem for the first time, I can't wait." Aside from the national team, these will be Burkardt's first matches on the international stage.

Burkardt with or without Ekitiké in the attack?

Until then, the question of whether Hugo Ekitiké will stay at Eintracht Frankfurt or not will also be answered. Without naming a strike partner, Burkardt stated that he can perform both as a solo striker and in a duo, and that he also wants to help the team with his high-flying ability.

This has also helped him score an impressive 18 league goals for Mainz recently. Will he be able to score 20 next season? "I always think about where I want to go before the season starts. I'll still do that." And he'll probably jot down that number on his notepad again.
