Transfer of the summer already decided: This BVB star is pure joy!

Borussia Dortmund paid €30 million for a second-division player. But the investment in Jobe Bellingham is paying off. His performances at the Club World Cup show that he's already the signing of the summer and will bring a lot of joy to BVB!

Of course, BVB has long had a connection to the name and thus to the Bellingham family, but Jobe, the two-year-younger brother of Jude Bellingham, is a true midfield leader.

Similar to Jude, who delighted BVB fans from 2020 to 2023. Jude ultimately moved to Real Madrid for €113 million, and two years later, Jobe joined from Premier League newcomers Sunderland for €30.5 million. Incidentally, he was at the forefront of the Black Cats' dramatic promotion playoffs in England.

Of course, the competition at this World Cup was manageable, at least in the group stage, although even Mamelodi gave BVB a good run for their money, but Bellingham is already a stimulating element for Dortmund's midfield.

Comparing him to his older brother is difficult, given that Jude was already playing in the Champions League at the same age, while Jobe had just made the move from the second-tier EFL Championship to Dortmund. For a long time, the wider public perceived both Bellinghams as being built for the defensive midfield position due to their stature and physique—especially in Jude's case.

But even with Jude, it became clear over the years that he wasn't meant to be in front of the defense, but rather further forward. This trend has continued at Real Madrid. While Jobe played in a double six for Sunderland alongside defensive specialist Dan Neil, Niko Kovac has also begun to use him more offensively.

Against Ulsan HD, Jobe played as a de facto inside striker in Kovac's 3-4-2-1 formation, then dropping back somewhat defensively. Jobe, even more so than Jude, is very agile on the ball, less of a ball-carrier than his older brother, but a dynamic dribbler.

Even for Sunderland, he repeatedly attempted a dribble after receiving the ball, or tried to outwit the nearest opponent with one or two clever touches. Added to that is the natural goal threat of both Bellinghams. Pushing into the penalty area with pace and momentum and shadowing a center forward is in the blood of both of them.

Dortmund has hit the jackpot with this signing. What BVB has been lacking in midfield recently is a dynamic transition player between the defensive midfield and the attack.

Felix Nmecha and Pascal Groß can provide stability in the center, but in front of them, you need someone who can not only carry the ball but also outmaneuver opponents. Julian Brandt could do this in theory, but he's far too inconsistent and far from the one-on-one player you'd expect.

Winter signing Carney Chukwuemeka, who is now set to become a permanent signing following his loan from Chelsea, is also a good transitional player, but is better suited to Groß's role. This would have left a vacuum in Dortmund's midfield, which Bellingham has now filled.

Of course, there's an expectation that, like his brother, he won't stay at BVB forever. But for now, Dortmund has done everything right. And one thing is certain: this Bellingham will bring a lot of joy to the Bundesliga!
