Both games were originally the responsibility of Sat.1 – but since they take place at the same time, the broadcaster had to choose one.

The main broadcaster chose the U21 semifinal . Sat.1 will broadcast the match live from Košice, Slovakia, starting at 9 p.m. According to the broadcaster, this decision was based on both the sporting significance of the match and the high level of viewer interest. Previous broadcasts of the U21 match have achieved strong ratings – last Sunday, up to 4.3 million people watched the second half of the quarterfinal, corresponding to a market share of 24 percent.

Borussia Dortmund 's Club World Cup group match, which is taking place at the same time , can be seen on sister channel ProSieben. Dortmund's opponent is South Korea's Ulsan Hyundai. Those who can't decide can watch both games: Sat.1 will broadcast the U21s live on free TV, while the BVB game will be available not only on ProSieben but also via stream on Joyn . Football fans who can't decide only have to use two screens.

The scheduling conflict has the following origin: The UEFA Under-21 European Championship traditionally takes place in the summer – this time in Slovakia. FIFA, however, has restructured the 2025 Club World Cup and, for the first time, has scheduled it for a more extensive tournament format during the summer months. The result: two competitions taking place at the same time.

Sat.1 chose the German U21 semifinal for its parallel broadcast of two important matches – not only due to high ratings , but also because of its sporting relevance . Coach Antonio Di Salvo's team has delivered convincing performances so far at the European Championships in Slovakia. In the preliminary round, the team was strong and effective in attack.

With five goals so far, Nick Woltemade is one of the competition's most notable players. The German national team beat Italy 3-2 in the quarterfinals, qualifying for the semifinals against France.

By reaching the last four, the team is rewarding itself for a strong tournament performance so far. Even though other nations were rated higher beforehand, the U21 team is now a serious contender for the title .
