The decisive phase of the U-21 European Championship in Slovakia is about to begin: On Sunday, June 22, 2025, Germany will face Italy for a place in the semifinals of this year's edition. Kick-off is at 9 p.m. at the MOL Arena in Dunajska Streda, in the border triangle with Austria and Hungary.
A special game for Di Salvo and TresoldiThen, the tournament, which has been flawless so far, is set to continue. The German national team is the only one of the 16 participating nations to win all of its matches in the group stage – most recently a 2-1 victory against defending champions England . Accordingly, the German national team is fueling hopes of claiming its fourth title in Slovakia, following its triumphs in 2009, 2017, and 2021.
There's still a long way to go until then, however. The next test lies in the football classic against the Azzurrini. Italy has been very minimalist so far at the European Championship. The southern Europeans have scored only three goals in three matches, but have the second-best defense of the tournament, having conceded just one goal so far— in the final group match against Spain (1-1) .
It will also be a special match for national coach Antonio Di Salvo and striker Nicolo Tresoldi , both of whom have Italian roots. The new signing from Club Bruges was even born in the Italian city of Cagliari, Sardinia.
