In temperatures of almost 40 degrees Celsius, FC Bayern lost 1-0 to Benfica and advanced to the Club World Cup round of 16 only as group runners-up. The game felt like a strange private party, to which the Munich team arrived late—partly because coach Kompany's lineup was very bold.

Prize money at the Club World CupAt the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, a record total of $1 billion (approximately €926 million) will be distributed among the 32 participating clubs. The prize money is divided into two categories: $525 million will be distributed among all teams as a participation fee, with the amount depending on the confederation and the clubs' ranking. European clubs will receive the highest amounts, ranging from $13 million to $38 million. Clubs from regions such as Africa, Asia, and North America will receive approximately $10 million, while the representative from Oceania will receive the smallest amount at $4 million.
The remaining $475 million will be distributed based on performance during the tournament. In the group stage, a win earns $2 million, and a draw earns $1 million. Starting in the knockout phase, the rewards increase significantly: Reaching the round of 16 brings $7.5 million, the quarterfinals approximately $13 million, the semifinals $21 million, and the final $30 million. The winner receives an additional $40 million. In total, the tournament winner can earn up to $125 million if they win all their matches.
The World Cup will be held in a total of twelve stadiums. Seven venues are on the East Coast and two on the West Coast. The remaining three are located inland. The final will take place at MetLife Stadium , where the two New York NFL teams, the Giants and the Jets, usually play their matches.
