Women's European Championship 2025: Italy in team check – New hopes

Andrea Soncin hasn't gained a great deal of coaching experience yet—but he's at least had the chance to compete with José Mourinho. That was in May 2022, when he was given the opportunity to oversee Venezia FC's final games of the season as interim coach. He was unable to continue his employment as he was unable to prevent relegation. Otherwise, he primarily coached the club's U19 team before taking over as coach of the Italian women's national team in 2023, following their elimination in the group stage of the World Cup. After a mixed start, the team has recently shown stable performances under Soncin, even putting up a good fight against teams like Spain, Germany, and the Netherlands. After years of failure, the 46-year-old has the chance to build on the 1990s in terms of sport and finally unlock the potential of Italy as a football nation, including women's football.
