Suspicion of arson
Out of control: Fire on the Adriatic coast causes chaos

Severe fires are currently raging along Croatia's Adriatic coast. Authorities have evacuated residents and tourists, and part of the coastal highway has been closed. Officials suspect arson.

Severe fires are raging along Croatia's Adriatic coast. The fires threaten several tourist regions, including areas near Split . Numerous tourists are fleeing, and a section of the coastal highway between Omiš and Dubce has had to be closed. Many houses and cars have been destroyed by the flames. The situation is extremely dramatic, as " Today" reports.

A fire chief told the Croatian portal Dnevnik : "The fire is spreading and we have no control over it. We are saving house by house."

Authorities evacuated residents and tourists from the settlements of Pisak and Marusici, located about 30 kilometers south of Split.

According to the state news agency Hina, the situation is critical. High temperatures, dryness, and strong winds are making firefighting efforts difficult. Pine forests, which are prone to burning, are particularly affected. Firefighters are working continuously.

Sinica Mihanovic, deputy head of the police administration, suspects arson. "This was undisputedly confirmed by an eyewitness. All available forces are on scene, and we are doing everything we can to apprehend the perpetrator(s) as quickly as possible," he told the news platform 24sata.hr.

Tourists in Croatia should pay attention to media reports and advice from local authorities. They should also follow prohibitions, signs, warnings, and instructions from local authorities. Important phone numbers can be found on the " adriagate.com" website.
