15 World Food Programme trucks that were to distribute aid to bakeries in Gaza were looted.
The World Food Programme (WFP) reported Friday that 15 trucks that were scheduled to distribute supplies to bakeries in the southern Gaza Strip run by the UN program were looted last night.
The WFP trucks were carrying "critical food supplies for hungry populations anxiously awaiting aid," the program said in a statement, adding that " hunger, desperation, and anxiety about whether aid will arrive are increasing insecurity" in the Gaza Strip.

This Friday, the Israeli government announced that it had allowed 107 trucks from the UN and the international community to enter the Gaza Strip yesterday.
On Thursday, the UN confirmed that 198 trucks had entered Gaza, 90 of which were distributed throughout the enclave, mostly loaded with medical supplies or flour for the Strip's bakeries.
However, incidents during aid distribution are becoming more frequent, as complaints that the incoming aid is insufficient are compounded by looting and people's desperation for aid after three months of Israel's total blockade of the Strip.
Last night, six members of the teams tasked with protecting humanitarian aid in Gaza were killed after being attacked by the Israeli army while defending two trucks carrying medical supplies that were about to be raided in Deir al-Balah (center).
The WFP stated today that it cannot "operate safely under a distribution system that limits the number of bakeries and places where people in Gaza can access food."

" We need the support of the Israeli authorities to deliver much larger volumes of food aid to Gaza more quickly, consistently, and through safer routes, as was done during the ceasefire," said the WFP, which wants to be allowed to deliver flour and food parcels directly to families , as it is "the most effective way to respond to widespread famine."
Two million people in the Gaza Strip face extreme famine without immediate action, the UN Programme warned.
The humanitarian aid allowed by Israel into Gaza in recent days "does not even come close to covering the scale and volume of the needs of Gaza's 2.1 million people," UN Secretary-General spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said Thursday.

Before the war, an average of about 500 trucks carrying basic goods for the population entered the country every day , although humanitarian organizations already considered this insufficient.
