Former Morena deputy Saúl Huerta's 22-year prison sentence for rape is upheld.

Judges of the Fourth Collegiate Criminal Court of Appeal of the Superior Court of Justice of Puebla rejected an appeal filed by former Morena federal deputy Saúl Huerta , who was convicted of rape of a minor; they upheld the sentence .

Given this, the law firm handling the case reported that the former Morena legislator must serve the 22-year prison sentence imposed against him, "for finding him criminally responsible for the crime of rape against a minor, in events that occurred in the State of Puebla."

The Superior Court of Justice dismissed the politician's appeal to reduce his sentence, which was issued in 2022, in addition to a fine equivalent to 325 times the Unit of Measurement and Update (UMA).

"Benjamín Saúl HC is sentenced to 22 years in prison, which he must serve in the penitentiary establishment determined by the competent executing judge, who must establish its operation without any consideration of preventive detention," was how the court ratified the sentence .

In addition, it imposed a fine equivalent to three hundred and twenty-five times the unit of measurement and updating against the convicted man, who in 2021 was accused of raping a minor , which fractured his reelection bid.

On February 7, 2024, a federal judge sentenced Huerta to 22 years in prison. He was also under investigation for two additional cases of sexual abuse . In April 2021, a minor reported the former official, and he was arrested on April 21 by agents of the Mexico City Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC); however, he was released because he had federal immunity as a congressman.

The Chamber of Deputies ' investigative section revoked the former Morena deputy's immunity; he has been held in Mexico City's Eastern Prison since August 2021. A few months later, authorities linked him to sexual abuse and rape ; the process lasted nearly two years until he was sentenced a year ago.
