Miguel Uribe: two months in agony and a hemorrhage that took his life

Miguel Uribe: two months in agony and a hemorrhage that took his life

At a rally in Bogotá, Colombian presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay was shot several times; two of them hit him directly in the head. He then began a 65-day life-and-death struggle at the Santa Fe Foundation , where he underwent multiple surgeries to attempt to repair the damage.

For weeks after June 7, his condition was critical, but with slight signs of improvement that kept him hopeful. However, early Saturday morning, everything changed: he suffered a hemorrhage in his central nervous system, which irreversibly complicated his condition. His family and medical team did everything they could to stabilize him, but his deterioration was unstoppable.

At 2:00 a.m. on Monday , after just over two months of agony , Miguel Uribe died. He was 39. His wife, María Claudia Tarazona, confirmed the news with a heartfelt message: “Rest in peace, love of my life. I will take care of our children.”

The attack, carried out by a 15-year-old hitman who has already pleaded guilty, remains under investigation. Although six people have been arrested for providing weapons and information, the identity of the mastermind remains unclear.

His death not only leaves a political void in Colombia, but also revives the ghost of the violence that marked him since he was a child, when he lost his mother, journalist Diana Turbay , in a failed rescue from a kidnapping ordered by Pablo Escobar.
