Palomea opens up to private investment in energy

The opening of private investments in the energy sector, promoted by the government of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, is positive, according to Eduardo Daniel Sánchez Martínez, director of the State Agency for Renewable Energies of Nuevo León (NL).
“For distributed generation projects, increasing the capacity from 500 to 700 kilowatts is already an important opportunity for many companies, which may not have made the decision before and which now represents a practically 40 percent increase from 500 to 700 for projects under the distributed generation modality, that is, the one that is consumed where it is generated,” said Sánchez.
The projects of 700 kilowatts to 20 megawatts that will be for self-consumption in isolated mode or with connection to the grid or with sale of surpluses to CFE, those three modalities of self-consumption, I think, will be an immediate response for industries, for companies, for industrial parks. That is where I think there will be an important opportunity.”
The official projected a short-term benefit, but was cautious while waiting for secondary laws on this issue.
They are on the right track, we will need to see manuals and regulations to see what those conditions or rules of the game are. The fine print.
Currently, NL ranks second in Mexico in terms of solar panel installation, only behind Jalisco, which is why the director of the State Agency for Renewable Energy of NL considered it important to invest in the industrial sector in order to win first place.
“In comparison with Jalisco, there is a difference in the basic supply rate, which makes the time or return on investment for projects, mainly at the residential level, which is where it has the greatest proportion, even more profitable than in Jalisco,” said Sánchez Martínez.
What we are seeing in NL in recent years is the participation of commercial and industrial projects. The key to narrowing this gap is to invest in the industrial sector.”
