Pope Leo XIV calls for halting the US-Iran war before it becomes an 'irreparable disaster'

Pope Leo XIV spoke on Sunday, June 22, about the “ alarming ” news that continues to arrive from the Middle East, especially the recent U.S. attacks on Iran , and called for stopping the “ tragedy ” of wars before they become an “irreparable disaster.”
According to Europa Press , Leo XIV warned that, in this complicated scenario, which also involves Israel and Palestine , the daily suffering of the people risks being forgotten, just when the need for humanitarian aid becomes increasingly urgent.
“Alarming news continues to arrive from the Middle East, especially from Iran . Every member of the international community has a moral responsibility: to stop the tragedy of war before it becomes an irreparable disaster,” the Pope said during the Angelus prayer.
He also noted that humanity, today more than ever, “ cries out for peace ,” and that this cry “demands responsibility and common sense.” “ This cry for peace must not be silenced by the thunder of weapons or by incendiary speeches that only fuel conflict,” the Pope warned, calling for an end to the violence before it becomes “an irreparable chasm.”
“There are no distant conflicts when human dignity is at stake. War doesn't solve problems: it exacerbates them and leaves deep wounds in the history of peoples, wounds that can take generations to heal,” he stressed.
Finally, the Pope had words for the victims, especially those whose future is being robbed.
“No military victory compensates for a mother's pain, a child's fear, or a stolen future. Let diplomacy silence the guns. Let people build their destiny through works of peace, not through violence or bloody conflicts,” he concluded.
