Rains in Torreón leave puddles at intersections and some fallen trees.

Rains in Torreón leave puddles at intersections and some fallen trees.

Flooding, power outages, and downed trees are the effects of the intermittent rains that have been falling since Saturday night in the city of Torreón, according to initial reports from the Torreón Civil Protection and Fire Department.

Due to a power outage by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), the sump located on the side of the Raúl López Sánchez ring road , heading from Gómez Palacio to this city, was out of service, causing a significant buildup of water, forcing the closure of traffic in that area.

In addition, puddles are reported on Rodríguez Triana Boulevard, from Revolución Boulevard to Agroindustrias (south to north lanes); Monterreal and Libertad Boulevards in the Monterreal neighborhood; in La Nogalera near the Ferretodo hardware store in the Villas Ibero neighborhood; and on Independencia Boulevard, from Jiménez Street to Ramón Corona Street in the Centro neighborhood.

Some trees were also reported to have fallen. These reports are now being addressed by Civil Protection personnel, while Traffic and Highway patrol officers are monitoring flooded areas and streets where traffic lights were out due to power outages.

Municipal agencies are working in a coordinated manner, monitoring the effects of the rainfall and taking action such as clearing storm drains, providing roadside assistance, and responding to citizen reports. The Torreón Civil Protection and Fire Department has activated the Municipal Rain Response Plan.

Staff from various departments reported power outages in the city's downtown area, the northern part of the city, the Industrial Zone, and Villas Universidad, among other areas. They have contacted the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), and are working together to address all areas affected by the power outage as quickly as possible.
