Possible cause of Mexican ship Cuauhtémoc crash into Brooklyn Bridge exposed

INDEMAR Coastal Engineering , a company specialized in scientific and technical studies of the marine environment, revealed the possible causes of the collision of the ARM Cuauhtémoc Sailing School ship ( BE-01 ), emblem of the Mexican Navy , against the Brooklyn Bridge in the port of New York, United States.

On the night of May 17, the Mexican Navy ship suffered a mishap when it collided with the Brooklyn Bridge during a departure maneuver in New York Harbor, where the sailors were hanging from the masts .

Why did the Mexican ship crash into the Brooklyn Bridge?

Through its X (formerly Twitter) account, INDEMAR stated that the National Transportation Safety Board ( NTSB ) and the Mexican Government's Secretariat of the Navy ( Semar ) are already investigating the accident. However, the company advanced a possible conclusion about the origin of the mishap , which left two dead and more than 20 injured.

According to INDEMAR , based on preliminary reports from the NTSB , the accident could have been caused by a electrical failure This caused a loss of power upon departure . However, it clarified that this was not the main cause of the collision, but rather an aggravating factor. The root cause, according to the company, was a lack of planning, risk control , and coordination with the tugboats; it also cited a failure in navigation forecasting.

What do US and Mexican authorities say?

The Cuauhtémoc Training Ship , with a height of 44.8 meters, struck the Brooklyn Bridge, whose clearance is 38.7 meters , during a rising tide of approximately 1.3 meters. This represented a calculation error of more than six meters in a critical navigation area. INDEMAR stressed that precision is not optional in maritime operations .

So far, this version has not been officially confirmed by Mexican or U.S. authorities . INDEMAR indicated that a preliminary report could be issued by the NTSB and SEMAR within two to four weeks.
