Roland Garros rematch arrives at Wimbledon: Two-time champion Alcaraz faces Sinner, who already beat him in London.

Roland Garros rematch arrives at Wimbledon: Two-time champion Alcaraz faces Sinner, who already beat him in London.

History repeats itself. Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will face each other again in a grand final, just as two giants expected to compete for everything they will do over the next two years, as they will this Sunday for the Wimbledon title. The Spaniard has the right results; the Italian, the passion for revenge after the painful defeat just over a month ago at Roland Garros. Ladies and gentlemen, the greatest tennis spectacle on the planet is back.

The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club's Centre Court will host the thirteenth head-to-head meeting between the two on Sunday. A rivalry that began in 2019 and is expected to remain in the spotlight for the next decade.

They have faced each other twelve times since that first meeting at the Alicante Challenger in 2010 —still as non-professionals—in which Carlitos won in three sets. Since then, Carlos has won eight times, compared to the four that Sinner managed to defeat him.

His track record, especially his recent one, encourages optimism. However, there are dates marked in red that could give the Italian confidence ahead of the challenge at Wimbledon. Among them, the only meeting between the two at Wimbledon, a match Sinner won in the 2022 round of 16... the last one Carlitos lost in the AELTC.

Carlos also fell in the first final they played: it was on the clay of Umag, Croatia, in 2022. This fact should not worry Carlos, on the other hand, since then the Murcian has triumphed in all the finals against the San Cándido native: Beijing 2024, Rome 2025 and, of course, Roland Garros 2025.

The statistical cushion is soft, yes, but to that we must add the analysis of each player's situation. Carlos also "wins" there . Juan Carlos Ferrero's pupil is a two-time champion on a court he dominates from corner to corner. Without the pressure of his debut, Alcaraz will try to replicate his good tennis sensations of the past two weeks against his toughest opponent.

It's clear that Alcaraz has only improved since his turbulent debut against Fognini. The Spaniard has made his mark, and his serve has reached the best possible level. All the consistency he's enjoyed over the past two weeks is what Sinner hasn't. This gives him a run that's a pure advantage.

The Italian "robot" hasn't been too upset at Wimbledon . In fact, his worst moment was resolved with Dimitrov's injury, and Djokovic, who was injured, was barely able to compete against him in the semifinals. His suffering against the Bulgarian and the lack of focus that could have cost him a set against the Serbian are clear signs that he's not feeling 100%, no matter how unstoppable his tennis style seems.

Anything can happen on the court, but it's true that the conspicuous bandage he wore on his elbow against Djokovic suggested that the discomfort may be more obvious than he's trying to hide. Alcaraz, meanwhile, arrives without any discomfort at all in this grand final and is riding a 24-match winning streak dating back to the first match played in Rome in May.

The odds and Djokovic are betting on Carlos Alcaraz

The betting market always provides a guide to the final's sentiment. It's not definitive, of course, and the difference between Sinner and Alcaraz is usually small... but the fact is that the major bookmakers are making Carlos Alcaraz the favorite.

I give Carlos as favorite

His recent legacy at La Catedral goes back a long way, just ask someone who knows what it's like to win many times on this court like Novak Djokovic, who dared to get wet after falling to Sinner: "I see Carlos as the favorite in the final because of the two titles he's won and the confidence he has right now. Just a small advantage, because Sinner is hitting the ball very well . It's going to be a very even match like in Paris," he dared to predict.
