There will be a new tender for taxi concessions in Torreón.

There will be a new tender for taxi concessions in Torreón.

The new tender being planned by the Torreón City Council includes the inclusion of taxi concessions that were canceled for not operating for more than six months.

As part of the city's public transportation modernization process, the Municipality is preparing a new tender for the allocation of taxi concessions. This process will include approximately 250 permits that were pending from the previous administration's calls for tenders, as well as those that have been canceled for more than six months of inactivity.

City Hall Secretary José Elías Ganem Guerrero explained that the municipality is conducting a detailed assessment to determine the exact number of concessions needed.

"The intention is to conduct a comprehensive analysis and ensure that the concessions granted are actually operating in the city," he noted.

The official emphasized that the concessions that met all requirements and were paid on time are already being awarded. However, there are records of concessions that were never paid. as well as others that have remained inactive for more than six months and could be cancelled in accordance with current regulations.

The ongoing study will not only determine the number of concessions needed, but will also include a comprehensive analysis of public transportation routes, the number of buses in operation, and the most efficient routes. This process is part of the effort to completely modernize Torreón's transportation system, a priority initiative promoted by Mayor Román Alberto Cepeda.

"Public transportation in Torreón requires a complete overhaul that addresses taxis, urban bus service, and freight transportation. Citizens demand this modernization, and it's a commitment of the municipal administration," said Ganem Guerrero.

The tender will be launched once the municipal study has been completed. , ensuring that new concessions respond to the city's real needs and contribute to more efficient mobility.

As previously reported in this media outlet, this new procedure seeks to award permits that, due to various circumstances, could not be allocated in the process carried out last year.

The concessions are part of the package of 1,300 titles offered in November 2023, as part of a bidding process that spanned three stages. Despite efforts to complete the allocation, approximately 18% of the concessions could not be awarded, necessitating a new call for tenders.
