Memorable and forgettable looks from the 2025 Met Gala

The most anticipated fashion event of the year, the Met Gala, took place today under the theme “ Superfine : Tailoring Black Style ”, in honor of the so-called “black dandies”: a historical figure who used fashion as a tool to redefine identity, challenge social hierarchies and affirm humanity in contexts of oppression, from the 18th century to the present day .
This charity dinner inaugurated the Metropolitan Museum of Art's spring exhibition of the same name as the gala, which will be open to the public from May 10 to October 26, 2025 .
The Met Gala is traditionally held every first Monday in May, when the museum's steps become a unique runway. This year's dress code was "Tailored for you," with an emphasis on menswear and tailoring.
An African-American choir opened the parade, under the watchful eye of the event's organizer, the influential editor Anna Wintour. The choir's twenty singers performed Marvin Gaye's "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" on the event's blue and flowery carpet.
Wintour told the media in attendance that this year's gala sent a message of support to the Black community, which was prominent among the guests, including figures from all walks of life.
It's worth noting that one of the gala's goals is to raise money to benefit the Fashion Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and this year they raised $31 million.
Funding comes from attendees, a list of 400 celebrities who paid $75,000 per ticket—according to specialized media, since this figure is not officially published—although many are sponsored by fashion brands that dress them during the exclusive evening inside the museum.
It's worth noting that this is the first time since 2003 that the Met Gala has focused on men's fashion; on that occasion, the theme was "Men in Skirts."

As with every red carpet, and according to expert critics, the Met's selection of outfits was both a success and a failure, and among those who stood out for their good taste was Anne Hathaway . The actress paired a high-waisted pencil skirt made of hundreds of crystals in black and silver stripes with a white shirt that was left unbuttoned at the sleeves and chest; a Carolina Herrera design; she also chose matte black satin stilettos and black accessories.
Zendaya , a clear icon of fashion and good taste, couldn't be missing from this list. She walked the 2025 Met Gala red carpet in a white Louis Vuitton suit designed by Pharrell Williams, which she accessorized with a wide-brimmed hat.
For her part, Demi Moore was one of the few celebrities who dared to wear a look beyond the literal black dandyism, the theme of the 2025 Met Gala.
Demi stunned in a black dress with white lines, its design reminiscent of a clear architectural piece. A semicircle emerges from the strapless dress, passing behind her head and framing her face. Her hair was pulled back in a bun to minimize the spotlight. Her only accessory was a black leather dog-shaped bag with white studs.

How difficult was it to project the concept of "Black Style" into a look? Well, it wasn't exactly easy for these celebrities, as they made several stumbles with their outfits and left much to be desired. Actress Halle Bailey went to the extreme with her Coach outfit. The sweetheart neckline of her bustier and mid-thigh blazer dress shortened her silhouette. As if that weren't enough, both the garments and the platform sneakers had sparkling appliqués (silver or blue) throughout. In short, the overuse of flashy elements made it impossible to focus on her beauty.
Another failed case was Dua Lipa . This time, the "Houdini" singer left fans of the 2025 Met Gala empty-handed, as she took the "black-tie" concept literally with a Chanel look that, while adding a striking element with the cape, fell short of the concept of black dandyism.
Shakira was another celebrity who apparently didn't follow or understand this year's concept and opted to wear a pink, mermaid-cut, V-neck dress created by Prabal Gurung.
