Banking with a purpose

Banking with a purpose

In the complex global economic landscape, Mexico needs strong institutions committed to national development and financial inclusion for all sectors of the population. Therefore, at the Union of Mexican Financial Institutions (UNIFIMEX), we celebrate and promote the existence of a common purpose: to contribute to the country's growth with social responsibility, financial education, and solutions that are close to the people.

Mexican banks have been making significant contributions to our economy for many years. According to data from the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV), the Mexican financial system represents more than 40% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and national banks actively contribute to this figure, not only through lending but also by promoting banking access, financial inclusion, and entrepreneurship.

UNIFIMEX members comprise all the participating financial and business groups, including CI Banco, Afirme, Gentera, Consubanco, Banco Azteca, and Círculo de Crédito. They are an example of how Mexican institutions can and should be protagonists of development. Through their business model and area of specialization, they have demonstrated that it is possible to conduct banking with purpose.

CiBanco is a leader in foreign trade operations and fiduciary services, supporting both companies and individuals with innovative and secure financial tools.

Gentera, through Compartamos Bank, has transformed lives through microcredits to entrepreneurial women in rural and marginalized areas, opening up opportunities where there were previously barriers. This model has been internationally recognized for its social impact, and has placed first in the distribution of microcredits to productive projects.

With a constantly growing network, Afirme has established itself as a bank that strongly promotes lending to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), encouraging local and regional investment. Its commitment to regional development has strengthened economic activity in the north of the country, promoting entrepreneurship and employment.

Consubanco, for its part, has been a pioneer in providing consumer credit through responsible and transparent schemes, especially for public and private sector workers and retirees. This approach has allowed millions of Mexican families access to goods and services that improve their quality of life without compromising their financial stability.

Círculo de Crédito plays a strategic role in the financial ecosystem: it generates valuable information that allows institutions to make better risk decisions and users to build solid credit histories. Thanks to its cutting-edge technology and approach, it has contributed to financial inclusion by providing a second chance to thousands of people who were previously uncreditworthy.

Banco Azteca, with one of the most extensive service networks in the country, has been a pioneer in bringing banking services to remote communities, promoting financial and digital inclusion through constant innovation. According to information from the National Banking Commission, it is the largest provider of small personal loans in the country.

These institutions build financial citizenship, helping to close historical gaps in our country. Best of all, they do so from a local perspective, with a deep understanding of the Mexican reality, but with a global vision and commitment to international best practices. In this sense, forming a united front of Mexican institutions has clear advantages: it allows us to coordinate efforts, exchange experiences, improve operating standards, and defend an agenda that prioritizes the country's well-being over external interests. Furthermore, it strengthens our financial sovereignty in a context where many key decisions are made outside the country.

In times of transformation and global challenges, we must take care of and invest in what's ours. And at UNIFIMEX, we are convinced that together we can achieve much more for Mexico.
