Bleta boosts its tablet business for seniors

The startup Bleta is boosting its tablet business for seniors, a project that was born with the aim of bridging the digital divide that affects this group daily.
“Many older people suffer from unwanted loneliness and are digitally disconnected because technology is very difficult to use,” reason entrepreneurs Gerard Pinar, Isabel García, and Adrià Roca.
The startup raises half a million and begins exporting and collaborating with the public sector. It was in the wake of the pandemic that they started the business. They worked for a company that extended the lifespan of devices, and as an act of solidarity, they donated tablets to senior living homes.
“We adapted the software so that older adults could use it without difficulty, and the initiative was so successful that we decided to start a startup with this idea,” they recall.
Five years have passed since then, and today the company has sold more than 2,000 tablets to individuals and some businesses. "We started selling to nursing homes and public administrations that want to offer the product to citizens in need, including groups of people with disabilities," they say.
Custom softwareBleta sells the tablet with custom-designed software installed. It allows users to view icons at a larger size than usual, access applications easily, and use tools like the camera and photo gallery with ease.
"We expect to generate half a million euros in revenue this year, compared to 150,000 last year. We've started selling abroad through Amazon, and it's working," they say.
With nine employees, the company has just secured half a million euros to boost its business growth. Investors include the Altura and Ona Capital funds, and a loan from Enisa of over 200,000 euros.
