" Trump says he just attacked three of Iran's nuclear plants. Iran is not developing nuclear weapons. He thought it was peaceful development, but this fact (the US attack) is setting the Middle East ablaze ," Petro said during an event in Medellín to celebrate Congress's approval of his labor reform.

Petro referred to the attacks after Trump claimed that the United States had "successfully" completed bombings against three Iranian nuclear facilities, the first such attacks by that country in the current conflict between Israel and Iran.

" This event not only affects the Middle East, but all of us here in Colombia ," Petro said, adding that in light of this situation, he must ask " face to face and without bowing his head ," as president pro tempore of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), " for world peace ."

At the beginning of his speech, Petro was urging Trump not to join Israel's attacks on Iran when he was informed of the US president's announcement.

" I tell him (Trump), don't start a war, stop the war between Israel and Iran, it could cause nuclear problems for all of humanity, and stop the genocide in Gaza ," the Colombian president managed to say before being informed of the White House resident's message about the attacks on the Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan.
