These are the changes to the RUNT and this is how the new platform will work.
More than two years ago, the Colombian Ministry of Transportation began a new phase in the National Single Transit Registry (RUNT), with the signing of the concession contract that paved the way for the so-called Runt 2.0.
According to the manager of the new concession, this change marked a profound transition in the way the system operates and interacts with transportation users.
“Two and a half years ago, the new phase of what we call Runt 2.0 began, which is the new contract signed by the Ministry of Transportation,” explained Orlando Patiño, the manager of the Runt 2.0 Concession.
According to Patiño, the service requirements that the operator must provide under this new phase differ in several respects from those in place over the past fifteen years.
Since the contract was signed, a technical and operational transition process between the old and new platforms has begun. This process, the manager indicated , has now been completed, and the new platform is currently fully operational.
"From the moment the contract was signed, the changes planned by the Government began to be implemented, and a transition process between the old and new systems began," he said.

The platform, according to its operators, is already fully operational. "There are many features, for example, including further strengthening communication with users through web services, as well as increased security, greater agility, and features that allow users to manage their own resources within the system," the manager stated.
One of the pillars on which this new platform was built is security. The objective, the executive explained, is to protect the information of millions of citizens who use the RUNT (National Registry of Autonomous Communities) for procedures related to vehicles, licenses, traffic history, and other processes associated with mobility in Colombia. "This new reality introduces technologies into day-to-day operations, so that we provide citizens or asset owners with the security to ensure that their transaction is never at risk of being leaked ," he added.
All operational and user information for RUNT 2.0 is stored in the cloud, following updated technological standards and incorporating blockchain components to increase transaction traceability and security.
The concession for this new phase of the RUNT was awarded in 2022 and began operations in 2023. Since then, the new system has been gradually implemented.
The manager explained that, although they have faced certain challenges inherent to managing technology, the system has been able to remain operational and continuously improve.
“We all know that when you deal with technology issues, there are always some service disruptions. We've gotten through relatively well. There have been glitches on some issues, but we've addressed them immediately and improved them, and I believe we can now say that the platform is 100% live,” he stated.

"This is an issue that authorities and state agencies in the sector must pay close attention to, because it is expanding rapidly," the manager commented.
Patiño referred to the growth of the vehicle fleet in Colombia. He noted that the trend has been consistent in recent years, particularly in relation to motorcycles.
The growth in the number of vehicles does not, for now, represent a problem for the current RUNT platform.
The executive assured that the system's installed capacity was designed to support a much larger transaction load.
" We have the capacity to accept that fleet and three times that, and if that fleet triples tomorrow, the platform is designed to support all of that transactionality," he indicated.
