MEXICO CITY (apro).- After making landfall at 5:30 a.m. in Pinotepa Nacional, Oaxaca, as a Category 3 hurricane, the center of "Erick" is now moving across the land at Category 1 and is located, as of 9:15 a.m., approximately 50 kilometers north-northwest of Punta Maldonado, Guerrero.

The National Water Commission reported that the storm is currently experiencing maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour (km/h) and gusts of 165 km/h, and is continuing to move northwest at 19 km/h.

Hurricane Erick is forecast to bring torrential rains (150 to 250 millimeters) to Guerrero and Oaxaca over the next few hours, and intense rains (75 to 150 mm) to Chiapas, southern Veracruz, and southern Puebla.

It will also bring sustained winds of 100 to 120 km/h with gusts of 140 to 160 km/h and waves of 3.0 to 5.0 meters in height on the coast of Oaxaca and eastern and southern Guerrero, as well as waves of 1.5 to 2.5 meters in height in Chiapas.

The impact of "Erick" in Oaxaca is affecting 123,757 users with power supply, according to the Federal Electricity Commission. "So far, 26% of service has been restored, and CFE personnel continue working to restore power in the remaining areas," it stated.
