"The situation for many is dramatic": Luis Petri and Patricia Bullrich toured flooded towns and led rescue operations.
The Ministers of Security and Defense, Patricia Bullrich and Luis Petri , traveled to the towns of Zárate and Campana to coordinate and assist with the relief and evacuation operations following the storm that has been hitting Buenos Aires since Friday. Heavy rains hit Zárate and nearby towns, causing widespread flooding and road closures in less than 24 hours. Provincial authorities decided to evacuate the most affected areas.
" The situations are very different between districts," Petri said, revealing that local forces have already evacuated nearly 1,800 residents, 1,600 of whom are from Campana. "We came from the new neighborhood, where the road had to be broken to allow the water to drain . More than 410 millimeters of rain fell in one day. We are now draining very quickly and hope to clear the area in the next few hours," Petri told La Nación+.
According to the minister, the areas hardest hit by the storm were the most vulnerable neighborhoods. "In the most vulnerable areas of Zárate and Campana, pools of water formed, but this was not the case in the city centers ," the Defense Minister stated.

To assist with the climate emergency, the National Government mobilized ambulances, trucks, helicopters, boats, and light vehicles. " The situation for many families is dramatic. We are putting all the resources of the national government to help the people in this area ," Petri said, adding: " We have no records in recent years of such intense rainfall in the area, exceeding 400 millimeters in such a short period of time, which is why the storm drains were saturated."
For her part, Bullrich contacted the provincial Minister of Security, Javier Alonso , and traveled to Zárate, one of the most affected areas. She has been leading the rescue operations there since Saturday afternoon. Buenos Aires Governor Axel Kicillof also traveled to the scene and reported to the Incident Command at Bridge 12.
