Former President Iván Duque supports Álvaro Uribe and denounces irregularities in his judicial process.

Former President Iván Duque supports Álvaro Uribe and denounces irregularities in his judicial process.
Duque praised the "gallantry, integrity, and honesty" with which Uribe has once again presented his defense, "convincingly arguing his innocence before the courts."
In his statements, former President Duque praised the strength of Uribe's arguments: "Over the past few days, we have seen solid arguments, a clear argument, and clear evidence that reaffirm his innocence after years of suffering and injustice ."

The former president also emphasized his conviction regarding the lack of foundation in the accusations against former President Uribe.
Duque's statement not only limited itself to defending Uribe's innocence but also included a challenge to the alleged irregularities, which, in his opinion, have tainted due process.

Former President Duque pointed out several shortcomings that, according to him, have undermined the guarantee of a fair trial for Uribe Vélez. Among these irregularities, he mentioned "unsubstantiated wiretaps."
Duque also emphasized the existence of "self-motivated testimony," suggesting that some statements against Uribe may have been biased or motivated by interests unrelated to the judicial pursuit of truth.
Another critical point highlighted by the former president was the “unfounded preventive detention,” a measure that, according to him, “limited the full exercise of defense” of former President Uribe , affecting his ability to adequately prepare and present his case.
Furthermore, Duque highlighted the supposed "homologation between an investigation and an indictment" as problematic. According to the former president, this comparison dissipated "fundamental procedural guarantees," which could have confused or altered the roles and procedural rights that correspond to each stage of the judicial process.

Finally, Iván Duque contextualized this judicial process as something more than a simple legal dispute. For him, this case has also represented "a form of intimidation against a political voice that resolutely confronted the most feared terrorist organizations in Colombia." With this statement, former President Duque not only defends Uribe's legal integrity, but also suggests that the process could be politically motivated .
