Former presidents will attend a meeting convened by Luis Abinader.

In a gesture of national unity , former presidents Leonel Fernández , Danilo Medina , and Hipólito Mejía confirmed their participation in the high-level meeting convened by President Luis Abinader , scheduled for this Wednesday, May 14, at 4:00 p.m. at the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense.
- The strategic meeting will focus on national security in the face of growing instability in Haiti, which continues to raise concerns about its repercussions in the Dominican Republic.
The call was formally made by the president Abinader addressed the matter on April 30th, in individual letters in which he emphasized the urgency of acting with a vision of the State in the face of an unprecedented crisis.
In his letters, the head of state praised the experience , leadership , and track record of the former presidents as key elements in building a firm and cohesive national stance.
The acceptance of the proposal by Fernández and Medina, as well as the already confirmed presence of Mejía , was described by the Presidency as a demonstration of political maturity and historical responsibility.
The gesture"This is a gesture that strengthens democratic institutions and the Dominican State's capacity to respond with unity and a vision for the future," the official statement said.
In addition to this first collective meeting, Abinader agreed to continue the dialogue process through bilateral meetings with each former president and welcomed the suggestion of incorporating the Economic and Social Council (CES) to ensure broader participation and a multisectoral approach to decision-making.
The Government assured that it will keep citizens informed about the development and results of this national dialogue process.
